rankings With NCAA Tournament selections just a few days away in most sports and a couple of weeks away in football, three Muhlenberg teams appear in the NCAA regional rankings.

Men’s soccer is ranked third in Mid-Atlantic Region by both the NCAA and NSCAA. The NCAA ranking, produced by the same committee that will determine the field and seedings for the NCAA Tournament, puts the Mules (12-1-2) in an excellent spot to earn at an-large bid should they come up short in this weekend’s CC playoffs.

Muhlenberg also moved up two spots to No. 9 in the D3soccer.com poll. The Mules were in the top 10 for one week early in the 2011 season, but they have not been ranked in the top 10 this late in the season since 1995 – a year that saw them advance to the “Final Four“ for the only time in program history.

In the NSCAA poll, Muhlenberg moved up two spots to No. 17.

Football (7-1) was ranked No. 7 in the South Region in the first NCAA regional rankings of the season, behind five undefeated teams (including Johns Hopkins at No. 3) and one-loss Texas Lutheran. If the Mules win their final two games to finish at 9-1, their strongest competition for an at-large bid will likely come from the two teams directly ahead of them (Centre and Texas Lutheran).

Muhlenberg is ranked 25th by the AFCA and is receiving votes in the D3football.com poll.

Field hockey (12-4) is ranked fifth in the South Region by the NCAA and continues to receive votes in the NFHCA national poll. The Mules will compete in the Centennial Conference playoffs this weekend in a field that also includes the teams ranked second (Ursinus) and third (Franklin & Marshall) in the region.
